This week at Hare Krishna Fridays, our friend, His Grace Rupa Goswami das prabhu will be giving an introduction/history of and reading from Srila Prabhupada's 'Krishna book' - the summary study of the 10th Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavat Purana). Within 'Krishna book' is the beautiful lila (divine story or pastime) of Damodara, particularly significant to this Holy Month of Kartik.
Kartik, also known as the month of Damodara, is a month for deepening one's love for Krishna. It is considered by devotees of Krishna to be the holiest month of the year. During this lunar month, devotees make extra vows, perform extra spiritual activities, and generally worship Krishna in His form as a young boy, Damodara, who was once bound at the waist by His mother, Yashoda, as a punishment for His mischievous childhood pastimes. Each morning or night devotees sing Damodarastakam together and offer a candle lamp to Lord Damodara (Krishna).
As usual we will also have Kirtan (chanting with musical instruments) -the most effective method of self-realisation for this age- and finish with a Veggie/Vegan Spiritual Feast.
We look forward to seeing you there!
