Friday 8th November - Srila Prabhupada's disappearance

This Friday we will be marking the occasion of Srila Prabhupada's disappearance (the day he passed away) with a special video talk and Guru Puja.

The founder of the modern day Hare Krishna movement in the West, “At a very advanced age, when most people would be resting on their laurels,” writes Harvey Cox, Harvard University theologian and author, “Srila Prabhupada harkened to the mandate of his own spiritual teacher and set out on the difficult and demanding voyage to America. Srila Prabhupada is, of course, only one of thousands of teachers. But in another sense, he is one in a thousand, maybe one in a million.”

Srila Prabhupada residing in the holy Dham Vrindavan, on Monday November 14th, 1977, at 7:30 pm., gave up this mortal frame surrounded by loving disciples engaged in 'Harinam-sankirtan', the congregational chanting of the Holy Name. Translating Srimad Bhagavatam up until the very last breath, in a peaceful condition, and with the Holy Name on his tongue, Srila Prabhupada passed from this world in Sri Vrndavana Dhama, India.

"He reason ill who tells that Vaisnavas die

When thou art living still in sound! The Vaisnavas die to live, and living try

To spread the Holy Name around !"

(Poem by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura).

Also as it's still the Holy month of Kartik, we will sing Damodarastakam together and offer a candle lamp to Lord Damodara (Krishna).

As usual we will also have Kirtan (chanting with musical instruments) -the most effective method of self-realisation for this age- and finish with a Veggie/Vegan Spiritual Feast.

We look forward to seeing you there!
