This week at Hare Krishna Fridays Brighton we will be hearing some stories from Srila Prabhupada's biography. Srila Prabhupada (founder of the modern day Hare Krishna Movement in the West) is regarded as an 'Acharya' - and 'one who leads by example'. By hearing the pastimes of an Acharya we can learn so many lessons to help us make progress on the path of Bhakti Yoga.
"Ācārya means one who knows the śāstra (scriptures) and practically uses in his life, and the same thing, he teaches to his disciple. That is called ācārya. Ācārya is not a self-made man. No. Ācārya means ācinoti yah śāstrāni. One who understand the śāstra, the Vedic śāstra, and practices in life and teaches the same thing to his student—that is called ācārya. So ācāryammām vijānīyān nāvamanyeta karhicit, na asūyeta martya-buddhyā (SB 11.17.27). So ācārya should not be considered as ordinary man, because he is representative of Krishna. Sāksād-dharitvena samasta-śāstraih. Viśvanātha Cakravartī Thākura says, "All the śāstras..." The śāstra is the basic strength, platform. So all the śāstra says the ācārya: "He is representative of the Supreme Lord." (Srila Prabhupada 1975)
As usual we will also have Kirtans (chanting with musical instruments) -the most effective method of self-realisation for this age- and finish with a Veggie/Vegan Spiritual Feast.
We look forward to seeing you there!
